We ship the majority of our devices with a partial battery charge. On occasion we have seen a handful of devices have a lower battery than normal when shipped. In these situations, Libris may take a longer than normal when put in the Charger before being powered on. In this case, allow Libris to sit in the charger for a full 4 hours to allow the charge to ramp up and activation to be enabled.
Also (why not?) give Libris a small jiggle in the Charger to make sure Libris is well seated and contacting the charging pins.
Other tricks: you may try pressing the button while the device is in the charger. That can sometimes help it power back on. Or you can lift it off the charger for 15 seconds and place it back up. Always ensure the device is seated properly,
If Libris has not turned on after 4 hours in the Charger, please Contact Support.
Libris is designed with a maximum battery life of 36 hours (in standby mode) and a 30-minute reserve for placing an emergency call after the 36-hour period. If Libris is active, in a poor coverage area or places calls, the battery will need to be charged sooner.
Libris should be charged every night or once a day for at least 4 hours.
Battery level confirmation
Libris provides battery level visual cues through the Battery Indicator. In addition, when the device drops 10% charge, an audio alert occurs: "Charge your personal mobile responder now. Please place your personal mobile responder in the charger now".
At 3% charge, the Libris will automatically shut down.
If there is a concern that the battery is not charging completely or at all, you can check the battery level of Libris through the Libris Platform, the Dealer Platform or your monitoring service software, as applicable.
Power up delays
If the battery is fully drained causing Libris to shut down on its own, it may take up to 4 hours on the Charger for Libris to turn on again.
Temperature extremes such as high heat and high cold will reduce the battery life.
In addition, Libris is equipped with a thermal protection switch that will turn Libris off if it gets extremely hot. If this happens, place Libris on the Charger at room temperature or in a cooler area out of direct sunlight.
If you continue to experience battery related issues, please Contact Support.
Coverage Impact on Battery Life
Poor coverage may impact the battery life of the Libris devices and Numera recommends you don't place a cellular MPERS device with a user that does not have regular, good cellular coverage.
Continual poor coverage may result in diminishing returns on battery life and may cause the device to power down and conserve battery life repeatedly once the battery reaches its 10% threshold. If you have further questions, please Contact Support.
Battery Air Discharge Issues
Some Libris that have been in cold storage may experience what we call air discharge upon initial activation out of inventory.
When Libris are in cold storage, the lithium ion battery will air discharging while in inventory. Some of these devices may discharge to levels below the operating level of the battery of 3 Volts. When this discharge has occurred and Libris is first placed in the charging station out of inventory the power management on system on Libris will begin trickle charging until it reaches the operational level of 3 volts at which point it will power on and begin bulk charging.
Trickle charging, as the name implies, can be a slow process and the time it takes will vary depending on how low the voltage has dropped while in cold storage and the ambient temperature. The higher the ambient temperature, the slower the trickle charge.
This scenario should only affect devices that have come straight out of inventory and would not affect devices that are already in use with a customer.
